About

The Ethnography Museum of Brasov and its three branches, the Urban Civilization Museum of Brasov, the Săcele Ethnographic Museum and the "Gheorghe Cernea" Rupea Ethnographic Museum are waiting for you to travel with the stories of our exhibitions and to discover the activities we offer.

The Ethnography Museum in Brasov is dedicated to the civilization of the rural communities in the Bran area, Rupea, Ţara Oltului and Ţara Bârsei. Together with the two subsidiary museums, Sacele Ethnographic Museum and "Gheorghe Cernea" Rupea Ethnographic Museum, the institution aims to present various ethnographic aspects of the most representative areas in the county.
In the central pavilion of Brasov there is a large permanent exhibition that includes, in a brief treatment, a common work for all ethnographic areas: the craft of the tissue and its functional application in the organization of the interior and in the popular costume.

The Urban Civilization Museum of Brasov is housed in an important monument of civil architecture, representative of the typology of public and private commercial spaces in Transylvanian towns, XVI-XIX.
The Museum of Urban Civilization of Brasov won the award of the Romanian Committee awarded for the year 2010, the year of the official opening of the Braşov Museum.
This award recognizes the remarkable modern valorisation of the historical monument restored, as well as the unique concept of the museums in Romania.

The Ethnographic Museum in Sacele operates in a historic monument building, documented in 1543, which served as a place for the gathering of dances for three centuries.
The permanent exhibition illustrates segments of life specific to the traditional civilization of the Carpathians (occupations, crafts, technical installations, a living space and traditional costumes). These aspects highlight the hypotheses of the multiculturality of the Sacele area by suggesting a common world to both the Moans and the Csangos. In the courtyard of the museum there is a hydraulic hammer hammer. Piua, who thickened thick woolen fabrics, was transferred from Târlungeni to the courtyard of the museum.
The urban-rural relationship, indirectly exposed in the exhibition, brings to the fore the phenomenon of acculturation, the settlements being strongly influenced by the urban way of life due to their location in the proximity of Brasov.

65 km from Brasov, on the road connecting Brasov to Sighisoara, in the center of Rupea, is the "Gheorghe Cernea" Ethnographic Museum. The museum, housed in a historic building from the 19th century. eighteenth century, recently renovated, evokes the rural world around Rupea, whose fair is a documentary attested in 1433.
The museum design aims to illustrate the main aspects that define the specificity of the Rupea ethnographic area: traditional fishing on Olt, pottery center in Drăuşeni, customs specific to the Saxon population in the area (Kronenfest), the Romanian wedding, the interior of the Saxon and Romanian houses and the flourishing trade in the Cohalm fair (Michael Falk's grocery store).
The museum can be named Gheorghe Cernea (1898-1965), one of the most outstanding personalities in the Rupea area, dedicated to Romanian folklore and ethnography.

The Brasov County Museum of History is one of the most important cultural institutions of Brasov County. It has the largest historical heritage of Brasov county (159,255 pieces), covering all historical epochs, from prehistory to the contemporary period. The museum organizes various cultural events (exhibitions, seminars, conferences, debates, festivals, etc.) in partnership with public or private institutions and organizations. The mission of Brasov County Museum of History is to discover, identify, collect, protect, research and exploit the historical heritage of Braşov County, to bring the Braşov communities, prestige, pride and understanding, to learn and educate, and, last but not least , to get Braşov's habit of visiting his museums and the tourist's desire to return to Brasov. The museums are not important points of interest for the Braşov community and the tourists arriving in the Brasov area, and the cultural events organized by them have the lowest publicity among the cultural preferences of the Brasov people. The Management Plan of the History Museum in Brasov for the period 2014-2019, presented in September 2014, has left precisely this painful reality. The long-term vision and mission of the History Museum of Brasov were formulated under the influence of the crisis situation. Thus, the new management plan pursued the reinvention of the Brasov County Museum of Historiy by transforming it into a representative cultural institution for presenting the historical identity of Brasov.  The main activities are: scientific establishment, administration, preservation and restoration of museum heritage; scientific research, evidence, documentation, protection and development of the museum heritage; permanently and / or temporarily capitalizing on museum heritage for the purpose of knowledge, education and recreation; organization of field, systematic and rescue archeological research, and archaeological research to find new archaeological sites; permanent contact with target audiences (in particular, Braşov community, Braşov county communities, students, Romanian and foreign tourists); permanent contact with media, non-governmental organizations, cultural bodies, educational and research institutions, museums, international bodies and fora.     The Brasov County Museum of History is a member of ICOM - International Council of Museums and since 2014 collaborates with the European Institute for Cultural Itineraries.     Between 2014 and 2015, the Brasov County Museum of History is the leader of local museums based on the total annual number of visitors, including the category of young beneficiaries and pupils. The activity of the Brasov History Museum takes place in several buildings, most of them being historic class A monuments: The Council House, Braşov, Piata Sfatului nr. 30, where the permanent exhibition "Braşov - History, Culture, Civilization" (600 m.p.
