Founded in 2010, the M&V Schmidt Foundation is a non-profit association that aims to contribute to the preservation and promotion of Saxon culture in Transylvania. In addition, educational and humanitarian projects are also part of the foundation's priorities. The “Detsch hat Klasse” scholarships for students, future German language teachers, the after-school program from Crit, the endowment with educational materials of the schools with sections / teaching in German in Romania are among the constant actions of the Foundation.

In the summer of 2012, Michael Schmidt, president of Automobile Bavaria and the M&V Schmidt Foundation, and the well-known musician Peter Maffay, founder of the Tabaluga Foundation, initiated the Haferland Week project (www.haferland.ro), a festival designed to promote culture, the Saxon traditions and values ​​from the area between Rupea and Sighișoara, called “Oats Country” or Haferland.

The festival took place without interruption, in 2021 taking place the 9th edition, between July 30 and August 1, under the High Patronage of the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, and the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Armin Laschet .
