Homorod
Homorod Commune is located in the central part of Romania, in the southeast area of the Transylvanian Plateau, in the so-called "Homoroade Depression", 4 km away from the old town of Rupea.
The Homorod village is traversed by two streams: Homorodul Mare from E-V and Homorodul Mic from E-S.
The wildlife in the forests around the village is made of a variety of species such as the bear, the Carpathian deer, boars, wolves, foxes etc.
The village has different nationalities: Romanians, Hungarians, Germans, Roma and others.
The impressive church was built in the second half of the 13th century, and fortified in 1500. It was endowed with a Gothic style dome and has a strong tower with a defense gallery, which is a great travel attraction. In 1623 the church was burned, and in 1626 it was rebuilt. In 1658, the fortress resisted a siege of the Crimean Tatars.
In this area, at a distance of 1 km from the center of the village there is a spa resort of local interest, at an altitude of 460 m. The spa is currently not in operation, due to an advanced stage of neglect, requiring investments to bring it into use. It worked until 1975.
Mineral water and mud from mud volcanos, with a high sulfur content, were used with great success in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, dermatological diseases, endocrine disorders, asthenic neurosis, biliary and hepatic disorders, as well as digestive track disorders. The healing qualities of the water and sulphurous mud are recognized both in the country and abroad, being certified by specialists in the interwar period.
